4. What kind of a time commitment is there for the kids and parents?
We have ride nights every Monday through the middle of June, from 6:00-9 pm with practice starting promptly at 6:45pm. In addition to the ride nights, we have a weekend Mini-Maxi show in the early spring, and a weekend year end show in June. In addition to the ride nights and the shows, we also have an annual Mother’s Day Poker Ride, and love to have parents help the Saturday before and the Sunday of the Poker Ride. (See Question 5 for details).
5. What kind of fundraising is involved?
To help keep membership dues and other expenses low, Eugene Pony Club does participate in several fundraisers throughout the year. We typically sell pies in the early fall which in the past has helped cover stall costs for the year end show. We also put on an annual Mother’s Day Poker Ride at Schmunk’s Ranch, which is our biggest fundraiser. Families collect prizes through donations or purchasing them for the club, and volunteer their time during the weekend to put the poker ride on. You can ask a board member for more details. Our third fundraiser is our sponsor book that we do for our Year End Show Program. The kids sell sponsorship ads for the program to friends, families, and businesses. The ads appear in the program and the sponsorship money helps pay for the year end show. Kids can also earn belt buckles and/or gift cards based on the amount of sponsorship money they earn.
6. What kind of riding do the kids participate in at Pony Club?
The kids participate in western riding --- everything from gaming to Western Equitation Classes. Pony Club gives kids a good foundation in the basics of Western riding. Horsemanship, gaming, and performance riding are emphasized.
